Melchizedek Priesthood

"The Melchizedek Priesthood is “the Holy Priesthood, after the Order of the Son of God” (Doctrine and Covenants 107:3). It is the power by which the sons and daughters of God can become like Him (see Doctrine and Covenants 84:19–21; 132:19–20)." (General Handbook Section 3.3.1)

The Year Before

For young women, your senior year of high school can be a wonderful time to learn more about how you are blessed by God's priesthood power, authority, and keys. With that in mind, we invite you to review these resources with your parents or another trusted adult.

For young men, we invite you to use the year preceding your ordination as a time to prepare to receive the Melchizedek Priesthood. Each young man is different and has unique circumstances. Although no timeline to receive the Melchizedek Priesthood is the same, as a general guideline, receiving the Melchizedek Priesthood at least a few months before serving a mission or moving away from home is a good timeframe. Please work with your parents and leaders to develop a plan that works for you.

As you prepare to receive the Melchizedek Priesthood, please work with your Bishop and Elders Quorum President to develop a plan to transition from the priests quorum to the elders quorum.
